Mandrake 9.2 cannot start x server

OKay, I was playing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and it seemed to freeze up on me and I couldn't get it to close, so I restarted the system manually. I have my Mandrake set up so I have to log in and startx manually, so after logging in and typing startx I get this error:

Cannot move old log file "var/log/XFree86.0.log.old"

xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to x server

xinit: No such process (errno 3): Servererror

I can still startx as root, but not with any of my user accounts. What's going on here? Is my system hosed??

If I were you, I'd move that old log file, maybe to somewhere like /tmp then see if you can start X as an ordinary user.

You could try creating a new user via Userdrake and see if that user can start X. If that works, just transfer your files over.
