make -o command not found

Hi. I'm trying to make vte so I can use it with a program galled geany. Everything goes fine,but make exits with the following lines

Code:
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/xx/dloads/vte-0.15.2/po'
file=`echo am | sed 's,.*/,,'`.gmo \
          && rm -f $file &&  -o $file am.po
/bin/sh: line 1: -o: command not found
make[2]: *** [am.gmo] Error 127
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/xx/dloads/vte-0.15.2/po'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/xx/dloads/vte-0.15.2'
make: *** [all] Error 2
I tried searching,and what I found seemed to show that I needed libxslt. I tried installing it,but that didn't help.

-o looks like a 'output file' option to me. Only the command is not there...
maybe there's s.th. wrong w/ the makefile?

This kind of error usually comes out when the command is stored in a variable, but the variable itself is null. Anyway, why don't you install vte from RPM?

Because Slackware doesn't use RPM's ?
there's a Slackware 11 package here though: http://www.linuxpackages.net/search_...e=vte&ver=11.0
