Question Make a windows printer share available on my linux

Maybe I am missing something important here, but somehow I can't find how to make a windows printer available on my linux.

Situation:
I got my linux laptop connected to a all microsoft network (AD) and am trying to print on a printer that is connected to one of windows servers.
How can I make such a printer available for printing on my linux (SuSE) box? Do I mount the printer like a share? (It should be available to linux as a standard printer)
Yast2 was not much help, it was always asking for a printer queue name, which I think windows network printer sharing does not have.

The official Samba doc provides lots of information how make a printer available over samba and let windows clients connect to it, but I need to do exactly the opposite.

any pointers are appreciated

Markus

On the 2000/2003 server, install "File and Print services for Unix". Create an LPD bases print queue on the server and then create the printer on the linux box.

Do you have CUPS installed at your desktop computer?
I think that could be a solution, but I have never tried that myself. If the printer is on ethernet, you might be able to set up a queue on your machine for that printer. And when MS Windows dropps connection to it, you can print your stuff.
Otherwise CUPSYS is a MUCH better printer server system, and works well with MS Windows stuff.

They realy should change print server to CUPSYS (and Samba) to get a realy easy managed printer server.

Can You browse the windows network okay ?? If so then use yast to set up a smb printer ... printer queue name is the name windows is using to share the printer .. make sure to put in a username and don't test it till the last screen(after you pick a driver file) you'll understand more when your in yast. I'm still a newbie with linux, been runing for about a month and a half. I started with suse 9.2 and was impressed enough that I bought 9.3 ... I'll never use microsoft again

if you are running KDE (IIRC SuSe has 2 set ups, one is gnome other is KDE, but i think KDE is their normal default GUI) you can log in as root and startx as root.

then you can find the printer manager. this works very much like the add printer wizard in windows. i have not been successful doing the CUPS 127.0.0.1:xxx (forget the cups port) thing. you will need to have CUPS installed without a doubt.

you can not do this as a normal user, you must be root.

(CUPS port is 631, and address is http://localhost:631/ or http://127.0.0.1:631 which is the same).
