windows printer share
I have looked all over linuxquestions.org and I could not find my answer but if I asking something that has been answered I'm sorry please point me to the right post...
I have a laptop running RH 9.0 and a windows network one of the Windows XP machines has a HP LaserJet 6L that I would like to use to print with my Linux laptop.
I installed everything I need for Samba I believe and I think I'm using the CUPS printing queue. When I go add a printer I tell it it's a Networked Windows (SMB) and then it takes me to a screen that pulls up 2 of the 6 windows machines on the network and wouldn't you know that one of them was actually the one that I was looking for. But when I open it, it shows nothing shared. So I click on the specified button and tell it the exact names it’s looking for
workgroup = windows workgroup the Windows XP machine is on
Server = the Windows XP machine name
share = the printers share name on the XP Machine
user = the user account name on the XP machine
password = the user account password on the XP machine
It accepts all these settings but when I try to print nothing. I even paid atention to case when putting these values in.
The other thing I did was added the windows ip address and alias to the hosts file on the laptop so I would be sure that the server name would point it in the right direction.
Can someone help me solve this? thanks
