Hi, usbserial.ko is usually with the kernel modules.

I use a usb 3g modem and these modles are loaded for it.

lsmod | grep usb
Code:
....
usbserial 36749 4 option,usb_wwan
....
in particular for my huawei 220 the option module is required.

search you system for the .ko file,

locate usbserial.ko
Code:
/lib/modules/2.6.33.5-1.rt23.1mdv-MusicBox/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.33.5-desktop-2mnb/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko.gz
/lib/modules/2.6.37-0.rc5.1mdvtmb-GamesBox/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
/usr/src/2.6.37-tmb-0.rc5.1mdv/drivers/usb/serial/.usbserial.ko.cmd
/usr/src/2.6.37-tmb-0.rc5.1mdv/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
/usr/src/kernel-rt-2.6.33.5-1.rt23.1mdv/drivers/usb/serial/.usbserial.ko.cmd
/usr/src/kernel-rt-2.6.33.5-1.rt23.1mdv/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
hope this helps.
