Question Extrex VistaC and usbserial

Hi folks !

I have an eTrex VistaC with USB connection and I want to access it as a serial port, somewhere like /dev/usb/ttyUSB0.

What I tried is : ( 2.6.8.1 Fedora Core 2 )
- modprobe usbserial
- modprobe pl2303
- connect my GPS to a USB hub
- /var/log/messages entry :
Dec 29 18:59:37 Saturne kernel: drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
Dec 29 18:59:37 Saturne kernel: usbcore: registered new driver usbserial_generic
Dec 29 18:59:37 Saturne kernel: usbcore: registered new driver usbserial
Dec 29 18:59:37 Saturne kernel: drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core v2.0
Dec 29 18:59:41 Saturne kernel: drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for PL-2303
Dec 29 18:59:41 Saturne kernel: usbcore: registered new driver pl2303
Dec 29 18:59:41 Saturne kernel: drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor driver v0.11
Dec 29 18:59:48 Saturne kernel: usb 4-4.2: new full speed USB device using address 7

But I didn't have the magic phrase telling me that I can access my USB device as /dev/usb/USBttyS0 or /dev/usb/USBS0.

/proc/sys/usb :

Can you tell me what I did wrong ?
Can you explain me the difference between usbserial and pl2303 ?

Thks,
C.Dutoit
