Question linux newbie question about TV display

Hi all, I have just recently setup a Mandrake 9.1 machine using the TV as my primary/only display. I got that all working just fine and all except for one thing...

It's very hard to read the font's on my TV screen. Words seem so blurry. Weird thing is when i get closer to the screen it's even harder to read! :

I have tried different resolutions...if i go to a smaller resolution (640x480) it is a little better but still kinda hard to read plus i don't want to use that resolution. Video on the other hand is very visible and works just fine. It's just the text/font's that's hard to read.

I went through the font's on the tv to see which ones i could see better and they are all just the same.

So, besides increasing the font size, which i am about to try next...is there anything else i can do to fix this?

Thanks

I take it everyone using a TV as their display has this problem. Is it just me or is it hard to read for everyone else too?

tv's are absolutly awful at displaying computers, im surprised you could get any higher than 640x480 with your tv. simplest rule, get a monitor

I can get pretty much any resolution I want. It's just that reading the text is a little tough. I do have a monitor... i have a couple actually. And 5 computers as well. They are all windows except for the one that has Mandrake.

I decided i wanted to start learing linux and i have been doing a pretty good job so far...despite alot of things. In order to learn linux i needed a project. So, my project is to setup a home entertainment system using a Soltek Qbic mini-barebone and Mandrake 9.1. Of course the other misc. parts like the processor, ram and dvd player.

Everything is completed and working. Video and sound looks and sounds awsome, i'm just stuck on that one problem.

So...there you have it...a long explanation to..and i quote "get a monitor"
