Yeah, XFce is pretty good... personally I don't like using the desktop only the file managing tools... for a desktop, (did I mention this already?) I use KDE. cuz personally I like the panel in there... mostly because of the applets available... like kdictionary and kmixer...

I recommend Gnome.
In KDE 3.0 or older version, try to search a little file start from /
then the KDE always crash in my computer!!! (IBM Thinkpad)
I haven't try in KDE 3.1 or later, maybe the problem is fixed.
Therefore, although I do love a lot of cool function and beautiful
themes in KDE, I always use Gnome instead.
As the Gnome.org said, they try to give the users what they 'just" need.

Well, i guess it all depends on the user. i guess you have to try it bott and choose the one that your more comfortable using...

I've tried both but i preffer Gnome. I like functionality more than beauty...

Hehehe, I'm sitting hear, reading this on my 200mhz P1 MMX, using Mozilla and Gnome on Slack8.1 I feel left out by all of you more powerful people... But it gets the job done, with the exception of sound(which I'm working on... Making progress!)

We are on the same boat my friend... Like a week ago my friend was going to trash his computer (He got the new dell 8500 now) , but I was lucky he called me before he did that.. I pick the computer up and its running slack... Some minor problems but I'll fix them little by little.. Its annoying some times because I have a 2.2 P4 and using this old 200 MHz computer is like going back in time to the 90's

Slackware is no harder to install than Mandrake/Red Hat. The only difference is that its not as pretty.

Slackware is Text based in the sense that it looks like DOS graphics, people seem to think its a lot of typing, when its really none.

What does this mean? It means you have to click buttons w/ your keyboard arrows (not mouse), and that the buttons look ugly.

Can you handle that?
