I don't have a network. Does the command 'iptables' work for me?

I am running Mandriva Linux 2006 version on my 64 bit computer.

Yes, iptables are also valid for loopback interfaces.

I don't have a network. How does it going to work?

Either long or short options are allowed.
--append -A chain Append to chain
--delete -D chain Delete matching rule from chain

Delete rule rulenum (1 = first) from chain
--insert -I chain [rulenum]

How are you posting on the internet if you don't have a network? Iptables works for dialup networking too.
Try:
iptables -L
This will list your rules. You probably have all default chains (INPUT, OUTPUT and FORWARD) set to ACCEPT. This is not good and if so you should probably install a firewall.
