Install to laptop with Windows recovery partition

Have a NEC i-Select that has Windows installed. Currently it has two partitions: 1)a Windows recovery partition and 2) the XP parttition. When the PC boots it offers the option of starting XP or entering the recovery console. I intend to resize the XP partition to make space for Linux, but my worry is what will GRUB do to the recovery partition - will I still have the option of also selecting my current boot options as well as Linux. More importantly, will I still be able to boot Windows!

Thanks.

IT depends on the way you install grub, if you use an automated installer like in ubuntu, or suse or almost any distro it will automately configure grub, usually this works very well with a normal xp-install, but I don't know if its also alright with the recovery partition. There are also distors, namely gentoo, where you configure grubyourself. For an insight in how the grub config works try http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...part=1&chap=10
