can any body say how to install windows without affecting the grub loader of linux.i have some problem in windows software so i need to reinstall it but donot want to reinstal the linux once again
I'll be interested if there is a way to do that. I do belive you could do a reinstall over top of your current windows OS but to install a fresh version I believe you have to reinstall Linux.
It used to be that you always had to install windoze first if you were setting up a dual boot machine. That might have changed, but if so, I am not aware of it.
AFAIK, You can't install Windows without it clobbering the master boot record. Let's just say it wasn't written to "play nice" with other operating systems.
The good news is you shouldn't need to re-install Linux... You will have to restore GRUB. There should be other threads that tell you how to do it. I don't really know how. I do know you will need a Linux rescue disc.
Just search for "restore GRUB" and several threads should come up.
[EDIT]
Oh, yeah... Be sure to back up anything you can't afford to lose.

It's very easy to restore grub ,for example in mandriva you just put the first cd or dvd or what ever you use and restart your computer, chose rescue ,then a choise of restore bootloade will appear ,then just press enter on it and follow the instructions.
