inplace upgrade of RH 6.6 to RH 7

Hi all

Looking to find any feedback of the inplace upgrade path.

We meet the pre-requisites (VMWare x86-64 minimally installed systems) But we're looking for experiences. This is a first for RedHat so doing our research.

We do have the RH LDAP utilities in place as well as a couple of other packages such as sendmail and so forth.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Many thanks!

Since it's a VM, can't you just make a backup of it, then try the upgrade and see if it works? If it doesn't, just delete it and restore the backup.

FWIW - I've never had an in-place upgrade work correctly across major versions, on any distro. I would be especially leery about RHEL 6 to 7, since that is a HUGE change.

redhat dose not support upgrade between major versions
you can try , but you will null and void your PAID FOR support contract
( or it DID )

also there is NO operating system called RH6 or RH7
redhat linux 6 and 7 went END OF LIFE in the early 2000's
RH6 came out in 26 April 1999
RH7 came out in 25 September 2000

now there are two OS's called
RedHat Enterprise Linux 6 ( RHEL6 )
and the current redhat release
RedHat Enterprise Linux 7 ( RHEL7 )

You can upgrade RHEL 6.6 to the soon to be released RHEL 6.7
and
you can upgrade RHEL 7.0 to 7.1

but you can NOT upgrade 6.6 to 7.1

reinstall with the 7.1 dvd and contact redhat sales and transfer your PAID FOR license
RHEL is not free !!!
you MUST buy the REQUIRED support contract

You are correct with the semantics, it is RHEL6.x and and RHEL7.x
No kidding its not free.

There is a RH supported option of doing inplace upgrades, only for latest RHEL 6.X TO RHEL 7.
And I did not mention RHEL 7.1 as it is not released yet.

I am asking for feedback - what experiences do others have with the new inplace upgrade path that is offered by RH.

John VV has nothing to offer.

Anybody else have experience with the inplace upgrade? Any feedback that can be shared?

Many thanks
