I sometimes get HUGE size font on the web and some programs in my Laptop, please help
Hi guys.
This is kind of funny.
After I installed linux on my laptop, I noticed that when I tried to run Openoffice, I get this super HUGE font size, and I can't use openoffice because all I can see is the "FILE" from the menu on the window, and this takes up the entire screen.
Another example is the Linuxquestions.org free Mail login.
the login is damn HUGE!!!!!!!, the input boxes are the size of my screen, and all I can see is the login box.
How do I change this in my laptop?, I checked the font manager and everything is okay in there. Why do I get these sometimes HUGE windows and fonts?
Dear:
I'm grateful that you open my urgent email. My trouble is: after I finished installing the Linux,it could boot well with Window Me.But one day,we I power up my computer, the boot just failed unwarningly. It just give me a black screen with GRUB configuration which I didn't know how to operate. Then every time I restarted the computer,it just gave me the same black screen with the same damn GRUB,my Linux and Window Me couldn't boot normally .I simply didn't know what had I done wrong. So I reinstalled Window XP Pro.Luckily It worked, but my Linux missing.I used to run PartitionMagic 8.0 to exam if my ext3 partition had corrupted, but it remained ok,which convinced me that there must be something wrong with the bootloader. It might be that after my installing the WinXP the WinXP's bootloader had overlapped the GRUB or LILO,so no matter I'm right or not ,Please show me the right way out.YOU ARE MY ONLY SAVIOR !!!!!THANX.
Anyway, i'm guessing that this has to do with the font configuration, most likely the desktop environment you are not using (either Gnome, or KDE) so go into the one you don't normally use, and check the font settings.
I had Gnome settings interfering with KDE ... i guess the reverse can happen also (i'm guessing you are using Gnome since it's the default desktop in RedHat)
I had a similar problem with OO recently. The menu fonts and pictures were *huge* making the application unusable. No problems with Mozilla though...
This problem happened to me when I changed LCD monitors.
Anyway, in RedHat 9 using Gnome, System Settings->Display brings up the Display Settings (may be similar in KDE). In the Advanced tag there is a Set DPI button. Click that and in the next dialog, choose Look up from monitor button. If you noticed the numbers change, this was probably the problem.
Now just reply Ok and restart the computer. Problem solved.
