I was editing my runlevels so that my comp would boot faster, and i accidentally disable my keyboard or something i guess, cuz it wont work now, and well i just want my runlevels back to normal. . . and since i cant get into linux i need a way to do this out of linux i think. Does anyone know a way to fix my problem, or help? Thanks
OH! DUH! lol, i was so stupid, i didnt even think of that, the funny thing is i downloaded knoppix for my friend and the iso's still on my hard drive. Alright, ill give it a shot, thanks.
Does anyone know what file i will be looking for to edit, because i'm pretty sure illhave to manually go into the file, correct? I just need the runlevel program file, not sure what its called, so if anyone could help it would be appreciated. thanks
Ok, well i found what i was looking for. . . in suse you have to link a buncha scripts in the /etc/init.d folder to their respective runlevel folders also in /etc/init.d, but there is a problem i have now encountered. . . i do not have permission to write or change things on my hard drive. I know what file i need to change, but i am not allowed to. Is there any way i can get root permissions on my hard disk through knoppix, or even just the ability to write to my hard drive?
I think knoppix automagically mounts partitions (as readonly) for you. You need to unmount your partition and remount it for rw permissions. I don't have knoppix in front of me, but it would be something like 'umount /mnt/hda1' mount -t ext2 (or reiserfs or ext3) /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1'. Without looking at your box, I can't be any more specific, sorry.
its not letting me unmount it says teh device is busy. . .how do i manually kill a device if you have aim. . . .could you im me make this easier? my sn is Selebus947. . .
I can't seem to remember my AIM password. The reason you can't unmount is because you have a file open on the mounted partition or your PWD (preset working directory) is inside the partition. Ensure that you have nothing open type 'cd ~;' and then 'lsof grep yourmount'.
thanks for the help. . it seems i have my problem worked out i will see when i reboot, but right now im working on something else. . . do you by any chance know what filesystem type (instead of subfs) a floppy drive can be set as, cuz in SuSE i compiled kernel 2.6.8.1 and it for some reason subfs does not work, so i changed my cdrom to iso9660 but i dont knwo what to change my floppy to
Yeah, i tried auto, and it didnt work. . . it was originally on subfs (which may be a suse thing, but i dont think so, my cdrom was also subfs). im gonna try vfat and ext2 then autofs (i dont know what it is really, but it may work)
