Question

OK, here is my problem. I bought my own separate computer to run my own domain off of, but I am having problems with trying to make my own HTML pages.

What I want to do is get a (prefearably free) HTML creator, such as Microsoft FrontPage (more about that in a second), make a web page, and then gradually learn HTML (there is a great site at http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com) and edit the pages to my fancy. I downloaded Valadeo LiveSite from downloads.cnet.com, and it looked pretty cool. But the problem with that was whenver I typed a sentence, hit return, and typed another sentence, and then went to preview, it was double spaced. I tried deleting HTML codes, but I ended up making it worse than expected. I was pissed, but I had to go to bed, so I didn't think much of it.

But today I tried Mircosoft FrontPage(v3.0) at school, and it did the same double spacing thing. Question one is, how do I get rid of the double spacing thing? I tried changing HTML codes, but I, not knowing what I am doing, was unsuccessful.

Question two is, what is a good (free is the key word here, but I will pay if need be) HTML creator/editor? I have a Linux and Windows machine, so either operating system would be fine for the HTML program.

Thank you for your help!

Well, I can go on and on about html and creation, I own three domains in which i am currently working on and redesigning all three of them...but yes, when hitting enter in most editors, they start a new paragraph, in html a new paragraph means a new line spaced from the previous. the tag you are looking for to break a line to go to the next line would be the <br> tag

example:

<p>this is my paragraph. i want to break the line here<br>
to go to the next line</p>

I personally like Macromedia Dreamweaver the best as an editor, it is the most true html editor there is, and doesn't put alot of bogus tags that aren't needed in the file to create the html page. probably the best free editor would be any text editor, like notepad, but that is only if know how to hand code html pages, that is what i usually use now, just any text editor, sometimes i get lazy though and use Dreamweaver to create my tables or frames, its much easier sometimes that way so it doesn't take up so much time when making tables or frames or whatever that is time consuming.
Email me and I can help you with anything you might have or any questions.
