How to Disable Screen Saver Permanently in KDE script??
Hi guys,
I want to know how I can permanently disable screen savers in linux KDE. I don't want to just be able to login to KDE and goto control panel system settings and disable it. I want a script to be able to be run everytime I install linux to automate the process of disabling the screensaver forever because I would like to install this on 100 computers and would not like to have to go to each machine individually.
A blunt approach would be to uninstall the screen saver program (likely using rpm, yum, yast, or apt-get depending on your distribution).
A more thoughtful approach would be to disable the "start" of the screen saver--which could be triggered from numerous places. A crude way of looking for it would be to run a command like 'grep -R ~/ xscreensaver' and it will likely suggest what configuration (or other startup script) is launching the screen-saver (sometimes it's ~/.kde/share/config)... and you could remove or comment out the lines of interest (e.g. using sed to insert the appropriate comment character to the start of the lines of interest '#','!', etc). This approach is specific to the account you run it under though--there are likely some template files stashed in /etc/ that are used as defaults for new accounts that you may be inclined to monkey with also.
If you mention what distribution you're using, someone familiar with it might be better able to chime in as to where xscreensaver is typically launched under KDE on your distro.
