How should I allow a Java applet to use more memory?
Hi,
My problem is simple, but there's a bit of background. Thanks for reading! :P
You may view my computer stats here at the ubuntu pastebin.
Anyway, I'm trying to play a game online, RuneScape, and it's java based, and currently I'm using IcedTea because that's what my distro (Kubuntu) ships with. The game is called Runescape and it is not a game for older computers, unless you want nightmarish graphics. I can get good graphics with this game because I've got the NV34, but they won't run smoothly because I'm unable to set the game with full graphics in OpenGL mode, only "Software" mode. However, if I put the game on low detail it runs fine in OpenGL, and then as I add more and more graphics it becomes all at once unplayable. The game runs smoothly in full detail for a quarter of a second at a time, with 10+ seconds of freezing in between.
This has led me to believe that some setting somewhere is not letting the game take up enough memory. Is there any way I could augment Java's memory usage?
Or is there some other known way to get RuneScape to run in OpenGL mode?
