how do i play VCD using mplayer?

i've got a problem with playing VCD with mplayer. in mplayer's documentation i've read that to play a VCD i must type:

$ mplayer vcd://2 -cdrom-device /dev/scd0

i do so, but mplayer shows the following error:

Playing vcd://2.
CD-ROM Device '/dev/scd0' not found.
Failed to open vcd://2

my cdrom mounts as /dev/scd0, and i've got proper permissions. what is wrong?

Hi jogurt666!!!!

I wonder if mplayer guys have changed the commands. To play vcd, all I've to do is:

$ mplayer -vcd 1

to play VCD's track number one. Same goes for DVD:

$ mplayer -dvd 1

Try those and let me know if it works... hmmm, it really seems that the commands have changed...

well i'm afraid it wont work anyway. comands have indeed changed and now to play a vcd track 2 you must type:

$ mplayer vcd://2

not

$ mplayer -vcd 2

like it was before. but well i guess it's not mplayers fault. it's rather my cd-rom's fault. it won't read that vcd under windows too. i've tried to run it on my brothers computer, and there it has worked fine. anyway thank you for your help.
