How can I use these machines togeather?


Hi everyone, I just got a job and they just decided to throw out a heap of machines to I took the chance to grab a few

Now any ideas how I should hook them up I have a 2mb cable connection that has been directly plugged into my Athlon system until now but I would like to share this with the Pentium 550 and maby use the Cool looking Dual pentium for somthing usefull

I have:

*Athlon 2500+ 512mb rm 120gb hdd 1x network card(my machine from before)

*Pentium 550 192mb ram 20gb+10gb hdd 1x network card

*Dual pentium pentium 233 128mb ram 9gb ultra wide scsi hdd 1x network card.

I also have an extra pci network card

Put the extra network card in the Pentium 233. Install your linux distribution of choice (Debian would work well here, it's what I use) and configure it to run as a NAT/firewalling box for your internet connection. You can also run apache and other server-type stuff from that.

Hey Matir I tried putting my slackware cd in there and booting it up but when I went to partition using chfdisk (or what ever its called) it only saw it as a 650mb hdd and wouldn´t let me parition it or anything

Maby I need to ask about this in another forum.

Thanks for the info though

Please post results from "dmesg | grep sd" regarding the scsi drive when you try again.

Hey I got it all going sweet when I chose the right kernel I saw all the scsi stuff come up (sda) and I now have slack 10.1 all installed I have some more questions but I think I should put them in the networking forum.

No problem, glad you got it working. As for the other spare computer, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. Just kidding. It depends on what you're into.

Its a shame you don´t live in NZ because tomorrow I will be throwing about 15 computers in the skip outside of work... maby less a few bits I think could be handy a few 6gb hdds sd ram etc
