How can I use these machines togeather?
Hi everyone, I just got a job :) and they just decided to throw out a heap of machines to I took the chance to grab a few :D
Now any ideas how I should hook them up I have a 2mb cable connection that has been directly plugged into my Athlon system until now but I would like to share this with the Pentium 550 and maby use the Cool looking Dual pentium for somthing usefull:study: I have: *Athlon 2500+ 512mb rm 120gb hdd 1x network card(my machine from before) *Pentium 550 192mb ram 20gb+10gb hdd 1x network card *Dual pentium pentium 233 128mb ram 9gb ultra wide scsi hdd 1x network card. I also have an extra pci network card Thanks for your time! |
Put the extra network card in the Pentium 233. Install your linux distribution of choice (Debian would work well here, it's what I use) and configure it to run as a NAT/firewalling box for your internet connection. You can also run apache and other server-type stuff from that.

Hey Matir I tried putting my slackware cd in there and booting it up but when I went to partition using chfdisk (or what ever its called) it only saw it as a 650mb hdd  and wouldnīt let me parition it or anything :(
Maby I need to ask about this in another forum. Thanks for the info though:D |
Hrrm, that's odd. What version of slackware?
|
10.1 I am going to give it another go just to make sure.
|
Please post results from "dmesg | grep sd" regarding the scsi drive when you try again.
|
Hey I got it all going sweet when I chose the right kernel I saw all the scsi stuff come up (sda) and I now have slack 10.1 all installed :) I have some more questions but I think I should put them in the networking forum.
Thanks for your help :) |
No problem, glad you got it working. As for the other spare computer, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. :) Just kidding. It depends on what you're into.

Its a shame you donīt live in NZ because tomorrow I will be throwing about 15 computers in the skip outside of work... maby less a few bits I think could be handy ;) a few 6gb hdds sd ram etc
***Oh yeah I put a specific networking question related to this in the networking forum**** http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=295290 |
