Hanging Issue - RH 7.2

Hihi =)

Lately I've been having a difficult issue with my Linux server here, so I'll start from the beginning.

Upon booting the server, when it gets to starting the network service the system will hang indefinitely on "Bringing up device lo"...I've checked the config files (ifcfg-lo, hosts.conf, etc) and found nothing out of the ordinary.

I can, however, boot the server without the network service, then start the network service post-boot and it comes up fine. Blah.

Now, once I am booted up and ready to go, I have about 30 seconds before the system grinds to a halt. Whether in KDE or at a command prompt. After that 30 seconds I can typically still do things like browse directories, webpages, text files, etc...and the server still performs it's network functions (IPTables routing, file server) just fine...

As soon as I try to run a system command however (service httpd start, or linuxconf, or netconfig at a prompt, or start up service configuration, apache configuration, terminal emulator, etc in KDE) the system will just freeze and do nothing. I typically can CTRL+C to get out of the hangup at the prompt, or bring up System Guard in KDE to kill the process, but that still dosen't help me accomplish anything, just gets me unfrozen so I can go freeze myself again.

Trying to kill X once the system has become like this results in the entire system freezing...no keyboard/mouse input, no nothing. (Although it STILL will perform routing/fileserver fuctions to users as normal!)

I finally got fed up and attempted to reinstall RH 7.2 from the original CD's, booting off the CD....and it froze....lol....

Any ideas? One person suggested that I disable CRON to attempt to clear up the hangs, but no luck...
