HAL problem when hibernating

I tried the hibernate option instead of shutting down and when I re-started a pop-up window warned that HAL had failed. The system log has the following entries:

kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
kernel: ide: failed opcode was: 0xb0

I find this vary scary and will not be hibernating again! Yet I was able to access the disk and run programs. What's going on here?

I'm running Fedora 6 with Gnomw on a desktop.

Hibernation achieved

Since no one knows the answer, here's the solution: don't try this with Fedora 6!

Fedora 7, however, lets you hibernate successfully, greatly speeding up the startup.
