hal problem

hey everyone,

I had HAL working just peachy before I re-installed my system (gentoo). I would pop in a usbkey, and it would show up in /media and I could mount it as needed. However, for some reason after the re-install, it doesn't work anymore. I know hal is working because I get a prompt in KDE when I out the disk that asks me what to do, and it will even take me to a media screen where it shows the media stuff that's plugged in (system:/media/). However, when I try to mount them, it complains about /dev/sdXY not being found in /etc/fstab. How do I get the stuff showing up in /media again?

Thanks,
//BHolley

Try adding the following line to /etc/fstab:

/dev/sda1 /media auto noauto,user,rw,gid=100 0 0

the problem is that I have a whole bunch of sdX devices, and so fstab doesn't work because the letters change depending on the order in which I plug them in. With hal, I used to be able to simply plug it in and have a directory called "LEXAR_MEDIA" show up in /media. Upon calling "mount /media/LEXAR_MEDIA/", I could use it at will. I know it works, I just can't figure out why it's not.

any other ideas?
