I have a virus/trojan/worm/bug on my XP box that sets the entire C drive to shared on each restart. when i turn the share off it warns me that it is only set for "administrative purposes" and will be reactivated on restart. i've looked all over but haven't been able to find out what the problem is, since i know only this one symptom and have no idea what the 'virus' name is. does anyone know where i can find this information or how to remove the malicious software?
i rarely use windows so lq being my first online help resource i figured i'd give this a shot.....
sounds like you don't have the permissions to change the drive share. it sure doesn't sound like a virus to me. log on to local admin. and try to change the share. also there might be a piece of software doing this. some anti virus or system admin software will do this.
this is normal though I'm tying to remember exactly what circumstances it does this. also try turning off file and print share.
hehe, only microsoft makes features that look like bugs, :-p
Well, edsmithers, a side of checking your user privileges to see if you can change the sharing option and then saving your session so that it stays that way...
If you use winbloze you gotta have an anti-virus, get Norton or something of the sort.
