finding info about modem?

Hi,

I am running RH8.0 on my laptop and want to know about its modem information. I can see with 'lspci' that there is a modem but i don't know whether its a winmodem or linmodem? and what's its chipset? Also can i use it on linux if its a winmodem?

here is the output of '/sbin/lspci' and 'cat /proc/pci' for my modem.

cat /proc/pci:
Quote:
Bus 0, device 31, function 6:
Modem: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 1).
IRQ 11.
I/O at 0x2400 [0x24ff].
I/O at 0x2000 [0x207f].
/sbin/lspci:
Quote:
00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 01)
Please help me.

hi,

Do you know who manufactures your modem? You might be able to get your chipset from their site... My winmodem was recognized (a conexant chip), but unfortunately, even with drivers, I could never get it to work.

Check out www.linmodems.org for more information. If you have a conexant winmodem chip, try linuxant.com... I suggest, if you do discover your chipset and try to download these drivers, download the 14.4 versions (you have to pay for the faster versions, and so, you want to make sure they actually work first.) I never got those drivers to work, but obviously some have had success.

I purchased a fairly inexpensive $50 external modem from newegg that my distro's website said was definitely supported, and it recognized it immediately and I've been online since with relatively few snags (most because I like to delete things randomly).

Good luck

Edit: ooops, yup, check out Intel's modem site... Big doof that I am I totally overlooked that.

thanks for your reply.

But how do i know who is the manufacturer of my ' Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 1)' modem? isn't it Intel as shown in its description or is it IBM as its IBM ThinkPad A30p laptop.

I did a google search and came accross below link.

http://www.modem-help.com/mfcs.php?mid=120&nid=10183

Can i download the driver mentioned on above site?

Please help.

I think it also has a conexant chipset (if you read the modem specs)... Okay...I just clicked on the link to the driver, and it takes you to linuxant.com, so it DEFINITELY is a conexant chipset... Give it a try (pick your distro and your modem model) The site is pretty good... Once again, download the 14.4 first just to see if it works. You might have more luck than I did with it...
