My printer can't print document but it printed "testpage". I have the printer properly setup, http://localhost:631 showing the printer "CUP/HPDeskjet_5740"and CUP/Cups-PDF".
On terminal ran;
# lpq
Code:
lpq: error - no default destination available.
Last time, several days ago, I encountered the same problem. I can't remember exactly how I fixed it. What I can remember is "I have to delete the printer and reinstall it". It seems to me each time I have to repeat this step. But this time it fails even after delete/reinstall the printer.
Have you tried configuring the printer from the Fedora GUI setup?
Have you tried printing from any applications?
Hi pixellany,
Whether you meant on GnomeDesktop (in my case)
System --> Administration --> Printing
Yes, I tried it. I can print a testpage but not a .pdf document.
This is not the first time I encountered the same problem, at least 2~3 times before. After working around deleting the printer and reinstalling the printer several times I can get the printer to print again.
$ lpq
showing the job number.
NOT like now.
I do hope to find out the cause, not coming to the same problem again in future. I trust if deleting the printer and reinstalling the printer the 2nd time, I can get the printer work again.
The Linux version of Acroread does not give a dialog to choose printers--it just shows "lp" command--to which you can add options. Perhaps your printer setup is not assigning the default correctly???
Try:
Printing a simple text file from the CLI using "lp <filename>"
Printing from some other application--eg OpenOffice or one of the GUI text editors.

On Firefox stared yahoo mail and clicked a mail --> printabe view
File --> Print
Now this time printer-1 can print the doc but not printer-2.
This discovery amazes me. Last time I setup the printer according to Printer-l Device URI. Because it did not print when I started FC6. Then I modified the printer according to Printer-2 Device URI. It can't print. I created a new printer as Printer-1. It printed.
