ethernet connection going up and down

Hi,
I log into my home server via ssh and this
has become part of my life:
Code:
Feb 27 19:18:24 localhost kernel: peth0: Promiscuous mode enabled.
Feb 27 19:22:54 localhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: peth0: transmit timed out
Feb 27 19:22:54 localhost kernel: peth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41E1
Feb 27 19:22:54 localhost kernel: peth0: Promiscuous mode enabled.
Feb 27 19:34:42 localhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: peth0: transmit timed out
Feb 27 19:34:42 localhost kernel: peth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41E1
Feb 27 19:34:42 localhost kernel: peth0: Promiscuous mode enabled.
Feb 27 19:35:00 localhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: peth0: transmit timed out
Feb 27 19:35:00 localhost kernel: peth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41
I run xen on Debian amd64 (2.6.12.6-xen0). I do not know if this is caused because of xen, but I had faced this problem again once -using Debian on a wireless i386 800MHz router- and the cause was, that somehow dirt had penetrated into the rj45.

I really don't know if this helps at all, or is even applicable to your problem... but I'm running Gentoo on and amd64 and have problems with the onboard NIC's to use 100% of my CPU when they have a DHCP address... maybe you can try using another NIC?

Hope this helps in any way

First i must clear out, that this has to do with Xen; i am running a xen privileged domain, while i get these messages.
I don't know if the solution applies in other cases, however it seems that it has to do with devices using the same irq lines (as i have read in mailing lists) and the solution is to disable the APIC (enter noapic kernel paramter in grub.conf/menu.lst).
