Difference between ext2 and ext3


I am working on linux but I am unable to understand that what is the difference between ext2 and ext3. Please somebody guide me.

The main difference is that ext3 supports journaling. One result is that if you plan to use your system for sensitive material, you will not be able (as far as I can find) to securely shred any files on an ext3 formatted hard drive.

Yep, that is the difference. Journaling. If you are going to have lots of little files journaling will help you. If you will have mostly larger files ext2 might make file transfers go faster. If you are not sure, go with ext3.
Most times you will not notice the difference in performance.

fdiffrences between ext2 and ext3

basically they are filesystems
ext2 is a reasonable fast fs
ext3 also got a journal
reiserfs is a journaling fs with a balanced tree structure compared like ntfs
