desktop does not work under gnome and mandrake 9.2

Hello,
I have a problem, like many people here obviously. I'm using Gnome under mandrake 9.2. Suddenly my desktop doesn't work. There are no icons, no background, and right click on the background doesn't work. But the taskbar beneath works. The Desktop folder in my home directory is here, and it contains everything it used to contain, so there is no problem here. I restarted my computer a few times, it didn't change anything, I went on KDE and everything seemed to work. Do you have any idea why this happened and how I could solve it ? Thanks in advance.

William
