CPU Overload

I am experiencing difficulties with applications crashing constantly due to CPU overload, according to the system logs. I am running K torrent with 1 downloading & 3 uploading at minimal speeds (below 50 kp/s). The system monitor reads considerable activity from "tracker d, tracker indexer, & tracker extract".

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on GNOME 2.26.1. There is 875.9 mb of hardware memory, and 20 gb of disc space.
The CPU is E2140 @ 1.60 gz Intel Pentium.

What's causing the constant CPU activity, besides K Torrent, & whatever application (amarok, vlc, SM Player, etc...)I am using. Video looks choppy in fullscreen.

Is the hardware memory too low? (875.9 mb)

Thanks.
