consolebeep when booted


I have set up a clarkconnect 1.2(based on redhat 7.3) firewall for my company. And i was wondering if itīs possible to make like 3 beeps when it has booted up......

Yes, it is possible. The command to make a beep is 'beep'. Please read 'man beep' for its options. When you know what you'd like to have open /etc/rc.d/rc.local and at the end add the 'beep' commands.

I donīt have the beep util installed and canīt find it on redhat, it must be part of a utility package.
I searched on some How-toīs and in the "visual bell" how-to the author talks about a "BEL char" (ascii code 7) would this be something i could use?, and how....

The equivalent to ascii code 7 would be ^G. You can simple echo this character to generate a beep. Maybe something like adding the following line in a script:

echo -n '^G^G^G'

The ^G has to be one character. In vi you can enter it by pressing CTRL V and then CTRL G.

Nice it works, but 'beep' has more options. It allows you to chage time and frequency of the beep.
