Clicking mp3 file won't open XMMS anymore...help!

I had my system setup so that whenever I clicked on an mp3 it would load xmms. Now when I click on an mp3 I just see an hourglass like it is going to load xmms but it never happens. I can go to the terminal window and type in "xmms" and it brings it up instantly.

I am running Mandrake 9.0. I hope we can figure this out cause it is driving me nuts!

right click on the mp3, select "edit file type" and make sure xmms is top on the list. if that doesn't work, then even just re-type the command used to open them in that file type interface. then click apply and all should be good.

someting similar happened to me once... id try to open an applicatoin [ i forgot what it was now..] but it would say its going to open, then never open... [oh yeah it was the screensaver setting..] it would just disappear after a while instead of actually opening... i was on blackbox at the moment and i ran kde inside it.. then i tried doing it in KDE and it worked... i guess that mght be the case?? i guess you could try creating a new account and opening it with that... and try what yowww did.. also does xmms open AT ALL?? go intoa terminal or open xmms from wherever you do.. instad of via an mp3... if it doesnt open there then the problem is XMMS itself... if it does then theres something else wrong.. and GOOD LUCK!!

umm.. if xmms opens fine from the command line then thers nothing wrong with xmms but with your settings to open mp3 files... i was thinking for a second it might be something wrong with xmms itself but now we know its not.... check the defaults for mp3 files

you know what.. your making mountains out of molehills... i mean is it really such a big deal?? if it doesnt fix this easily should you spend this much time trying to fix it or just give up and try something else... just open xmms and open it manually from there.. if THAT doesnt work then we have a problem... also have you tried on another account...?? also try doing "open with" on the mp3 and try with various mp3s... maybe that mp3s messed up.. well if that doesnt fix it and it doesnt work on other accounts ... just open them through xmms ... sorry it didnt wrk :/ good luck tho!

Woo hoo! I fixed it! I can't believe it! I will tell you what I did...

I right clicked on one my mp3's and picked "edit file type"

I noticed for Application Preference Order "Xmms" was first and "Listen to music files" was second. I tried switching them making "listen to music files" and it worked. Yesssss!

After closer inspection, I have determined "Listen to music files" runs "soundwrapper xmms". So I guess that program has to be run first for xmms to work right.
