Sounds like it takes all the fun out of compiling a kernel. I read the story but I can see several steps where a script like that would fail for me. I use a chain of bootloaders and they aren't all lilo or grub. The part that really takes the longest like finding out what to enable/disable in the kernel still has to be done by hand. And the build/install commands can all be typed on one line. All it adds is those extra checks to make sure everything goes right. I guess those might be usefull. I don't think it's something I would use though.
