CD/DVD burning in wine

Does anyone here use wine for all their ripping and burning needs? Would it be easier to get all this (dvd/cd burning/ripping) to work to its full potential in wine? Or would you recommend me dealing with all the ripping speed problems and dvd/cd burning trouble I've encountered on other's boxes? Thanks for your imput.

Forgot to say that I don't use gnome or kde, and I don't want to have to deal with all their dependancies... (so I can't really go for k3b)

graveman for burning
asunder for ripping

Both are native, both have GUIs and neither depend on GNOME or KDE.

I'm on slack10.2, and I'm getting this error when I ./configure Asunder:

configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.4.0, gthread-2.0 >= 2.4.0, libcddb >= 0.9.5) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment v ariable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find the m.

I have those packages installed, so what is wrong? Thanks.

Also (sorry for even more questions, but this IS linuxQUESTIONS.com), I installed graveman and when I try to burn it says "Operation Failed", and ejects the cd. I've burned cds in xcdroast without any errors, but I would like to be able to use graveman (good features).

Maybe try running graveman from a terminal to see if it outputs any more verbose errors. Try doing it as root, I've got it setup so it works as a user but I'm not sure if distros ship with that set up by default. Probably just a permissions thing.

As for compiling asunder, what distro do you use? To build stuff you need the source headers installed of what it's building against, it you have something like Fedora or Suse you'll need to install gtk-dev and libcddb-dev to get that.

I've used Graveman (which is a frontend for some very basic CLI CD/DVD tools) with much success, and ripperX for ripping. I use Fluxbox with no KDE or Gnome in sight

If you're having problems compiling, the following link will help (use installpkg to install anything downloaded from there): LinuxPackages.net

Update on my "operation failed" problem with graveman:

I tested burning under several different speeds with several different file sizes. It can burn at about 24x (no error) with a 15meg file, but can only burn at around 8x when the cd is half full (about 350megs). Is this a bug?

Furthermore, another problem. Graveman thinks the DVD-R I put in is a cdr, and xcdroast needs cdrecord-ProDVD...
