Can i speed up fedora & Beryl??

hi guys,
i just want want some one to look over these specs i have for my machine

HD 160GB
Ram 3071MB
Pentium 4 2.93GHz
Graphics card is a Radeon x300 / x500 128mb

so ive installed fedora core 7 on it, it all works nicely.
i also have insalled Beryl on it, and all the desktop effects work nicely, as long as you are not trying to do too much at once. for example i find if i open a webrower, and maybe a folder of pictures it can make the whole experince kinda jerky.

yesterday i had about 20 windows open, and trying to close them was a bit jerky...

so im wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to make my box run nice and smooth?

Would investing in a powerfull graphics card make much of a diffrence??

Any suggestions welcome..
Damien

You don't need a powerful graphics card, just a working one will do. I have a 128MB GeForce FX 5600XT, and Beryl works very smoothly with it.
