Beryl & ATI fglrx possible?

Hey, I'm sure I could figure out how to get this to work, but I can't really seem to find a definitive answer on this. Is it possible to get Beryl to work with ati cards using the fglrx drivers? I've seen the open source ati drivers work but I do not want to use those because they're rather crappy in other aspects.

I don't really need to be pointed towards a howto or anything, at least not yet, I just need to know if what I'm trying to do is possible.

Not sure what you mean, but if you like going trough the possible hell of installing fglrx and getting it work all right, I assume you mean playing DRI-enabled 3d-games. Installing fglrx can be easy, but often to get everything work great is another thing (TV-out, 3d, DRI, OpenGL desktop, ...)

I'd say yes, fglrx and Beryl do work, at least I have managed to run it. Though I don't do anything with fglrx and since it broke up the screen settings the second I plugged TV-out in, I'm not using that crap anymore. Open source drivers work so much more painlessly for what I need them for. Anyway, I didn't try if DRI was working while Beryl was, so I can't guarantee it works all right. All I know is it is possible.

I have the fglrx drivers working fine afaik. DRI and opengl work fine, I can play games and such and they run about as expected, I don't know if opengl on the desktop would require anything else, but I'm not really having problems with anything I just didn't know if it was possible to use the fglrx drivers with beryl or if I had to use the open source ones. The reason I didn't want to use the open source ones is because although they're supposedly painless (I really had no trouble setting up my fglrx ones I don't know why most people do tbh) they don't offer the same performance and features as the fglrx last I heard.

I just read this following article:

Quote:
"...Official ATI representatives state the ATI proprietary doesn't support Composite, and thus this driver will only be enabled by default for users whose video boards are not supported by the open source 'ati' video driver. For these users, 3D acceleration will be supported, but Composite will be explicitly disabled in the X.Org configuration file..."

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AcceleratedX
So since the fglrx drivers do not support composite doesn't this mean Beryl will not work since it requires composite or am I wrong here?
