Can I share a swap partition between mdk and rh?

If I want to try out RH and Mdk, do I need two swap partitions? The reason I think it would is if there are things stored on it between shutdown and the next boot. If not, then I assume it probably does not hurt to share it.

Anyone know for sure?

Sharing between multiple linux distributions shouldn't be a problem at all. It's even possible to share it with windows. But you have to do a little more to get that working.

open your "/etc/fstab" file.
Read "man swapon" and "man swapoff" and also "man mkswap".
it will clear you .

You only need one swap partition, you need a seperate / (root) partition for each distro and if you create a seperate partition for /home then you should be able to share that between distro's as well.

Aussie - one question.Don't you get any trouble if you share the /home partition and run like kde3 on one distro and kde2 on the other?
Just curious - i never tried that.

That could cause a few problems because the ~/.kde for kde3 is not compatable with the ~/.kde for kde2, one way around this is to only run one version of kde and lets face it kde3 is so much better than kde2, however if you need to run both then you could just use a slightly diferent user name for each and fiddle with the permissions so you can view each home dir from each user account.

Too lazy - was just curious because I use debian testing and play around with gentoo and the versions there are different about anywhere you look.
