hi, i'm getting cable internet in like two days, and i was just wonderig if there are any pitfalls, privacy issues, scams, or any other type of thing that i should watch out for before i sign anything or let them install.
What do you all think? Also, if i have any trouble integrating my linux network to the new internet line what is a good online resource for those specific problems? Thanks
What service are you using? In case you also get digital cable tv, make sure they dont give it to you on two seperate lines, they will charge you more when they can both be combined on one line. Happened to me.

That's crap. I use to work for TimeWarner Cable and they never did that. Most of the time they would run a separate line for the Cable modem so it has better reliability from the tap down the street without charging extra. Just charged for the price of the services, cable modem and digital cable, regardless of how many lines it took..
And you may want to check online review of the company before you sign a contract. It may save you many future pains, if you can find out from other people how reliable the service is.
like you were asked before, it would be helpful to tell us what company you are going to have cable with. This is most helpful so that we can tell you what is the best way and easies for you to get surfing with Linux. Every cable modem company varies a little in regard to how you would approach the install in Linux, so this is helpful.
Other than this, just make sure you get an ethernet card that is supported by linux so that you don't get a headegg trying to figure out how to make the windows ethernet card work in Linux.
this is really the only two things you need to do for it to work well and smoothly.
