bootsect.lnx - file empty

Hey all!!
I already set up a few times to load Linux through Windows loader by first running this command: dd if=/dev/hdb6 of=/bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1 and then editing c:\boot.ini file.
It always worked. However, this time when I installed Mandrake 8.2 and try to run this command "dd if=/dev/hdb6 of=/bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1" I get a bootsect.lnx file that is 512 bytes, but when I view it in binary editor, the file is totally empty. It does not make sense. There are no binary signs, just ASCII codes of value 00. Please tell me what I did wrong and how to fix it. I don't want to use LILO or GRUB. I like to load Linux through Windows. Thanks.

The commands you're entering are good if LILO is installed on hdb6. Just install it there and run the commands again.
