The exat error which I get is the following:
mkrootdev: label /1 not found
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
switchroot: mount failed :22
umount /initrd/dev failed :2
kernel panic - not syncing : attempted to kill init!
Boot into rescue mode and edit /boot/grub/grub.conf (and possibly /etc/fstab) to use the device definitions.
For example, if “/1” is supposed to be /dev/hda3, then substitute “/dev/hda3” for “LABEL=/1" in grub.conf (and possibly in fstab). It sounds like one of the labels is misdefined.
If you want to avoid “rescue mode”, try editing the grub parameters when the grub boot menu appears and make the substitution for “LABEL=” there. If the system boots, then edit grub.conf to make the changes permanent.
Usually, the second thing I do with a fresh installation is to go through grub.conf and fstab and eliminate all of the LABEL= definitions.
