backup from date keep directory structure

You want to backup your files.

You only want the ones that are newer than August 6, 2005.

You also want to retain the directory structure.

You are backing up your windows directory mounted at /mnt/win_d.

You open the terminal. You find yourself in your home directory.

You type "df" and find that you have plenty of diskspace in "/" to create an archive.

So, you type:

tar --after-date=2005-08-06 -cf backup.tar.gz /mnt/win_d

You end up with a file called backup.tar.gz in your home directory.

You want to extract that so you can make a few cd's, since this file won't fit on a disk.

You figure that out easily by typing in "tar --help".

If you can't figure it out, you search this website or respond to this thread for help.

It's a technical post, so moved to a more technical forum, Linux-General in this case.
