" & ' keys delayed on console

when i press " or ' in the terminal ( i guess even here in this message window, too!) it doesnt do anything.. i have to pres spacebar and then the key is shown.

its as if i press the key ("/') and it DOES print, but is hidden behind the text cursor thing (|) then once space is pressed it is revealed.

this doesnt happen in all distros iv tried, only slack

thanks for any help.

That's because your X is configured to use
us_intl instead of us. Have a look at your
XF86Config/xorg.conf ...

ok, i checked out xorg.conf, and there was no us_intl.. i had it set to ca with 102 keys (however i have no clue how many keys i infact do have, oh well). however, in the kde control panel i checked the keyboard regional settings and it was on us intl and i set it to us basic and tested and it works fine now. i also edited xorg.conf to use us and 101 keys now.
thanks
