2 sound problems...

I'm not sure if this fits in software or hardware, so I posted it on the General board. I'm using Slackware 9.1. Okay, here we go:

1. When I play an MP3, the quality is lacking (it's all crackling and such). I'm using XMMS and the OSS plug-in (the others don't work for me). However, when I'm using Knoppix, the sound is great. My soundcard is a Sound Blaster Live! Player 5.1.

2. When I'm viewing a Flash file, the sound isn't working at all!

Does anyone know what to do about these things?

the knoppix cd more than likely has newer drivers and a newer kernel. you may get better results from upgrading your alsa package.

good luck.

It also worked in Mandrake 9.1 perfectly, and Slack 9.1 is newer than MDK 9.1.

i had some similar problems, ended up using a combo of mixers to get it tweaked. it's been a while, but, if i remember it was finally, aumix that did the trick. hope that helps.
good luck.
