2.6.4 acting really slow and unresponsive


well i finally got a working 2.6 kernel i final figured out which modules to complie for my nic card and my sound card i got smbfs working i got my reiserfs working

i can boot into the kerenel and use x windows !!!

only problem is all my programs take WAY longer to load
and my mouse will freeze up for a sec CONTINUALSLY when doing other things

just wondering what i forgot to compile or what i did wrong

any help?????

Its hard to determine what you could have forgotten without hardware used and the config file displayed for us to see, etc.

I'd double check your config for accuracy, correct cpu support, etc.

I dont exactly know if this helps, but I see you have CONFIG_SMP set to y.

Are you running dual processors?

no i am not

any thing that is set in there was set default other then my reiser FS my sound card and my network card i also set my prossessor type to athalon

this is the only settings i changed but i didn't not use my old config file for my 2.4.22 kernel

smp is for multiple processors. I suggest you go through the config and do get it set to your system and not to default. often default won't even work.

its kinda hard when you don't know what alot of that stuff is in there
been using linux for like 4 months now

ok

well i did the x config to the best of my abillity
