1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null

just looking through somebody's cron file and I see lines like this:

0 7 * * * /path/to/script 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null
0 7 * * * /path/to/another 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null

Can anyone tell me what the 1 and 2 refer to? and why should they be piped to the null device.. Are these failure notices or something?
