Smile World of warcraft for Linux.(This is a forum for people who want world of warcraft..)

I made this thread so I can show the World of warcraft programmers that a Linux client should exist, but I need them to show them its in there best interest for them to make it for Linux. I am sick and tired of having to go through wines way of doing things its slow.

(Get off topic like say who in the right mind plays it you will be reported!!!!)

Post if you want a World of warcraft client for Linux so most likely they would make it 32 bit. Seeing how 64 bit users can run 32 bit programs.

If you wish to argue with with the 32 bit 64 bit thing put it below your yes or no answer in parentheses (Like this.)

Mmmm, you may want to try a petition instead, that's what people usually do ... effectiveness varies, but it may be more effective than a thread here ...

I'll sign the petition, even tho I don't play the game ... I might if they had a client for Linux.

I'm all for a Linux-based WoW Client. It'd be a must have for me.

There was a petition for WoW to run natively on Linux. I recall to have 20.000+ signatures back when WoW launched (2004?) and still don't have a Linux client for the game.
Try to make the petition again, I will sign it, as I did before, but I tell you, it won't change anything.

There's been a petition for almost every major release from Blizzard, and they simply don't care about Linux community.

As of now, they have lots of trouble making the Mac client work at a decent level, and they don't achieve it yet. I don't see them putting money on a Linux client. Too bad!

I would like to see that but honestly it will never happen. Why? Who knows. Personally I am staying around for a couple of months after Cat just to see what it is like. But after that I am leaving the game for good. Over four years playing it is enough. Time to move on so I can finally delete my Windows Partition. They won't miss me. They have 12 million and counting players. You would think 12 million x 15 a month (approx.) would equal enough to make it work with linux as well.

Exclamation

Let it be known there was a Linux client in beta, but not enough people used it to make it worth it from what I understand. Better yet maybe so many people used it in wine and it works not perfectly. They might not have the motivation unless we threaten there profit by saying we will boycott the game until they make a Linux client. If 20,000 people then signing a petition got them to experiment may losing $300,000 and or euros might change there mind. They have about 10M players $15M dollars minus $300,000 might change there mind.

I predict Linux will need to get a lot more popular before they make a Linux client, I calculate twice as popular. (I did not make an actual calculation I am going off what macs popularity was before they made a client for.) Then again mac does not run 90+% of the servers in the world not all of mac or windows users are users but servers.)

Well this petition idea might give us some momentum if I can get the signers to stop playing or paying I should say. This idea of getting people to stop is insane, well lets face it WOW is addicting I know from my personal experiences.

Before I get us even more off track than we are maybe instead of a petition each of us ever day could send an email from the heart (one a day) asking for a Linux client.

darkstarbyte, Good intentions and worth a try. Just don't hold your breath waiting for positive results. I have been hoping for four years now and nothing. If they do then it will really surprise me.

Also they just announced a week or two ago that they have passed 12 million people. The percentage of Linux users is very low out of that number, so I don't really see them changing things too soon if ever.

Edit: I am not trying to discourage you. Keep trying. Who knows, one day it could actually work

A Linux client would be wonderful. Anytime a game is ported to Linux, the sun shines a bit brighter, dogs wag their tails faster, and traffic in Los Angeles clears up just a bit.

With that being said, however, installing wine and WoW is no more difficult than any other Linux program for your distro of choice (I used Slackware as my primary desktop for years, running WoW/wine). I don't see it getting any easier with a native client. The install from disk would STILL take a huge chunk of time.

However, to those who say "wine is too slow" or "Windows is faster", I definitely disagree. And I have proof.

One day they might make a linux version of World of Warcraft. Maybe after linux has more people using it. OS statistics I think when or if Linux has as many users as OSX a wow version of linux will be made. I would like to hear from a Blizzard employee(wow programmer that is) what they think.

I support a linux client for WoW, but as others have posted its highly unlikely. Show me a petition and I'll sign it.

WoW is one of the easiest games to get running in linux IMHO BTW. Have you tried?

Yes I have got it running before, but Native clients run a lot faster than emulated ones. I have seen reports that with a few simple registry edits you can get it to run as fast if not faster through wine than on windows.
