I think every game should be ported to the 3 mostly-used platforms: Windows, Mac, and *nix.

I'm not a game developer but what makes sense to me is take the route that makes the most money. I really can't believe that it's not worth it in man-hours to just do the port before release. You can't really say that they'd have to specifically hire Mac or Linux developers because in today's IT world, there's no reason that they shouldn't be proficient in all of the top OS's.

Thumbs down That's Why You're Not A Game Developer

That's why you're not a game developer. Video games are freakishly complex animals with many custom-tools. Think of the map editors and the various packaging tools to create game data files...

On top of that, a developer would have to port everything to essentially two rendering platforms: OpenGL and DirectX. Games take up to three years to make now days and that's just for DirectX. Add OpenGL and you're talking about 6 or 7 years from main.cpp to code complete! That's not economically viable.

Furthermore, you'd have to be a freaking biased bigot to not accept that the Linux gaming market is infinitesimally small in comparison to the Windows gaming market. It's not cost effective to develop for Linux in your primary development cycle.

I'm sorry, but while I agree that they should develop for Linux, I can't say that I can bring myself to blame them because it's just not feasible.

I completely agree...that would be amazing! I haven't played that game in YEARS!!!

I'd love to see some action RPG titles ported over to Linux. Especially games such as Titan's Quest or the Dungeon Siege series.

As for cost, I'd pay the normal price for the games. (Usually between $39US-$49US) I'd be willing to pay more for special editions or package deals of course.

1st person shooters.

Granted EA has put up a few BF2 Linux servers, But why waste my time installing vmware or wine? when all i have to do is a duel boot. But I want to see all the games from the past 9 years hit Linux OS`s. Yeah warcraft is fun but I want more 1st person action. Rainbow six Vegas is nice. So that if i had a choice? EVERY GAME from this date forth should be coded for all OSes and leave windoze for last, most of them need to reboot after playing a game ne way.

Doesn't seem like it would be a bad decision to release all your games for at least Windows, Mac & Linux. I bought and played a space based MMO just because it was released with for all three of them in the same box. Nice game too, but just didn't quite cut it compared to EVE Online.

World of Warcraft would be great!
I won't say a thing on chess, because FICS is a good engine.

Take care.

I would like to play midtown madness and motocross madness on linux Too bad their made by microsoft. Their still fun to play.
All of the SimCity games too. Classic, 2000, 3000, & 4. The SimCity clone that is bundled with opensuse is a pile of turd. (Of course I might be thinking of the BeOS clone.) Nonetheless, I want SimCity ported.
