Question sound in wine lags behind the video


when playing games under wine the sound lags behind a bit.

you shoot you see the gun flash, then the bullethole then you hear the the shot. its kinda wierd


the game i tested this with most was call of duty

the soundcard is a soundblaster live 5.1
system is on an smp kernel dual p3 1000mhz
redhat 9
winex 3

anyone have any ideas?

are you using the miles sound system in the options? maybe thats the problem...

well, you go to the options menu of the game in question, and if its set at miles blah-blah sound system, switch it to something else and see if that helps.

Then it sounds like the game can't save its options. Check that the write permissions are set up properly for the game's folder and files.

strange when i changed the keybindings it it took them but when i changed the audio setting to creative eax it hung and when i started it again it was back to the miles thing i will have a look at the permissions when i get home

try switching to dsound 3d emulation.

i assume you mean in the game. the only sound provider option i saw are

miles blah blah blah
creative labs eax
creative labs eax2
creative labs eax3

i tried all 3 eax settings and all of them caused a freeze. sorry im being a pain. i dont know as much as i should about this OS but im getting there slowly

well, even if you were a pain, thats what newbs do at LQ (joke). anyhoo, do you know if you use alsa or oss?

i am not 100% sure i have xine on my system and it seems to work with oss but it freezes now and then .... thats another issue lol the card i have is a sb live 5.1 or and audigy i dont remember wich does that help?

i checked and set the permissions to 777 on all the subfolders and files and it still wont take the change. i can change the khz but if i change the audio provider it hangs. is there something i have to put in my wine config file?
