Slow Quake

i am running a dual boot WinXP PRO and Slack 10 system with an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1200 voerclocked to 1380 with 256 megs of ddr ram and a 60 GB hdd and a geforce 2 200/mx
the problem i am having is that i can run Q3A in windows perfectly but when i installed it in linux with the newest nvidia drivers and the WINDOWS quake cd,,, i then ran the Linux patch update for q3a and actualy got the game working but im at a 10 fps loss running it in linux rather than windows ,, i mean isnt linux spose to run things faster? oh and i did not run Wine or any other windows to linux porter program it was a straight patch to get the win q3a cd to work with linux that i got from planetquake.com so i would figure that i would gain atleast a few FPS ect

whats going on with this

I'm not positive, but it sounds like a driver issue, at least that is where I would start troubleshooting the problem. Look on the "Nv News" website under the Linux section, they probably have a answer, or at least know where to start looking. You should also check the in game video settings to make sure they are not set to high. Not the settings when the game is running, but the settings as they are in the configuration file. It took me a while to find the right settings to get the most I could out of my ti4600 while playing UT2004.
