Oddworld in Wine

I've been playing around with some stuff on my Fedora Core 1 machine, and at the moment I'm trying to install and run games with Wine, but I can't seem to get anything to work...
My latest attempt was intalling Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. I ran the autorun on the cd, and clicked Install. It installed without a hitch. I then ran the game. The graphics were good, the sound was perfect, it ran beautifuly. Then when It got to the main menu, I realized I had no keyboad control. No control at all. I couldn't even ctrl+alt+backspace to kill X! As the game was under the impression I was doing nothing, it started running the demo, and poor Abe didn't get past the second screen when the graphics and sound also locked up.
All I could do was switch my computer off, then back on again.

Does anyone have ANY idea why I can't get it to work?
I've also tried things like Dungeon Keeper II, but they just don't run. If I run them from a prompt (with the 'wine' command), they get to the part where it says it's starting ('dos4gw enabled' or something at the command line) and then it doesn't do anything more. I just have to press ctrl+c to end it...

Have I got a configuration problem or something?

Try running it in window mode. Go into your .wine directory in your home dir. (ex. /home/you/.wine) edit "config" in that director and find somewhere in "x11drv" where it says run in window mode, the line below should say "N" change it to say "Y", and make sure you delete the beggining ;'s for they comment out the line so it is not used. If I have been not clear tell me and I'll try to make more sense. Hoped I helped.

Okay, I tried windowed mode (there was no Y/N option, but there was a commented out line asking for window size, I set it to 800x600 (my resolution is 1024x768))
On the up side, I know have keyboard control (my main concern), however now the video is really choppy whereas it wasn't when it was running full screen. Also, If I have my cursor in the bounds of the window when the window is created, my cursor becomes trapped in that window. This is very odd, and it means I have no mouse control over my desktop. I do have keyboard control however. And it still locks up the sound and graphics of the game after a while.
Fortunately, I now have the control to kill it.

<sigh...> It is quite possibly just a matter of my computer not having enough processing power... But then again, it was running without the choppiness full screen...
